Logbook entry #1 - Hello world!
If the hello world in the title is printed, then we are in a good shape and New Phaistos is live! This is how engineers these days test their first code.
I do find myself in a similar situation, as this is my first real attempt at (public) writing. And to journaling, since I intend to use this little blog as my own thought storage. Fellow co-passengers, welcome!
Without further ado, let's get into today's topic: Master in Business Administration or MBA as its better known.
So these days I have been considering the next step in my career. I now work in Technology in a European firm and I while I enjoy my job, I notice my preference for the more strategic aspect of it. My ambition is thus to eventually land myself a job closer to that direction.
Education could be the tool to help me reach this strategic goal of mine. That line of thought quickly led me to follow an MBA lecture as a guest. That was an interesting experience!
I got to meet extremely interesting people. Brave entrepreneurs, seasoned executives loaded with stories and ambitious souls. This type of interaction motivates you and calls to grasp (or make) opportunities.
However, I couldn't help but get a sour taste in my mouth after the full day. Ultimately, we were being taught not how to get things done but how to survive and thrive in the current middle to high management landscape. Of course, a skill is as good as one's use of it and there is nothing wrong with that per se.
I guess my problem is rather personal then: I do not want to execute what a board of directors wants me to do; I want to add value to society (and the company).
